What makes lifestyle sessions unique?

October 26, 2016

I'm an Oregonian. Being Salem born and raised means I never gave the rain a thought. It didn't stop me from daily activities or adventures with friends. I've developed a love for boots and scarves, rainy nights inside and playing in puddles. It wasn't until my love of photography grew that my dislike for the rain sprang up.

My style of portrait photography has always been enhanced by the many beautiful scenes Oregon has to offer. Parks and gardens are abundant and make the perfect backdrop for portraits. Sessions that are done outside lend to free natural lighting that creates bright clean photos. The only downside... Rain! Let's face it, no senior wants wet, soggy, miserable photos for their yearbook. There isn't an expecting mother out there who feels any better cold and wet. The thought of trying to get children to cooperate for a family photo during a down pour makes me cringe. So what are the options when 80% of the year it's bound to rain?

Solution: An indoor lifestyle session!

Well,  what if you could preserve these moments often overlooked? Document the beginnings, those silly tiny humans who will eventually be grown and on their own adventures, trap immeasurable small moments of bliss to look back upon in years to come. The truth is, you can; or at least I can for you. This is what a in home lifestyle session is all about. Unlike a normal session this one is more candid, there's little to no posing. I come to your home at a time designated, get ready and take in the scene through my lens while the magic of your family happens.

When I mention in-home lifestyle sessions the majority of people ask me what I'm talking about. While this sort of photography is popular in other states it's less commonly known here. This fact makes very little sense to me. In a place where rain is the only constant weather one would think a session done in home would suite so many.

SO, what the heck is an In-home lifestyle session?

Possibly my favorite part of this kind of session is how it showcases you as a family. Your session takes place at YOUR home, in your favorite spaces, creating your favorite everyday memories. Where do you gather as a family? How do you bond? Perhaps, you're newly married. The last year has flown by and so many special things have happened. But every Sunday evening you get to enjoy being cuddled up together; your favorite books in hand while dinner is in the oven. Life is hectic but in this moment life is grand. Or maybe every Saturday you make breakfast as a family, waffles are your tradition. Your children giggle as they pick their favorite toppings. You can't imagine a better Saturday morning. These everyday, simple moments are treasures. You and I will discuss ahead of time what rooms and activities I'll be photographing. Once I'm there I'm hoping to be a fly on your wall.  Keep in mind calmer activities tend to photograph better. I'll be photographing from multiple levels and viewpoints; even getting on the floor to be eye to eye with your littles.

Being in your home means you are where you're most comfortable. If you have children they are in their natural element. Your wardrobe can range from pajamas to dress clothes. Will it be jeans and t-shirts or Sunday's best dress? It's all about you as a family. Don't forget your furry family members as well. Every in-home session is unique like your family. Every photograph is special. Hold on to these simple moments in life. Treasure them forever.

In-home sessions can be booked year round. Every session must have an in-home consultation to book. Every session will look slightly different depending on available lighting. Do you have questions? Want to book a session? Email Krista at K3photog@gmail.com
